Overview of Messages
ESChat includes functionality to send encrypted multimedia messaging to individual ESChat contacts or groups. Messaging includes both text and image attachments, each of which are secured with AES-256 encryption. Messages may be initiated from any secondary menu from any tab in the app. Users may view the number of recipients who have both received and opened sent messages. Admins may view any individual user's message history on the Admin Portal from from a configurable date for up to 30 days, depending upon message volume and specific deployments. Messages will remain on individual devices until a storage limit is reached or a 24 hour period. Use the message export function (Android devices only) to permanently store messages outside of the app.
The red dot on the messages tab icon indicates that there are one or more unread messages. Reach messages by pressing the message tab icon. The message screen may also be reached via the Navigation Drawer. |
When opened, the message tab displays the list of 1:1, ad hoc or group messages. The envelopes and arrow labels display information about the message. This label includes either the sender or the recipient for 1:1 calls. A group message will display the group name in parentheses. The date and time of the message is listed to the right of the name. Below the name is the message icon followed by either the first line of message text, or if the message includes an image, the image will be shown with an attachment icon. Click on an individual message. |
Messages will unroll in threads as shown. Long threads will show a yellow line indicating the spot of the last message break and a "jump to" yellow arrow to indicate the most recent message. |

Send Messages and Reply to Message Threads
You may send a message any of the secondary context menus within the app, and you may also send a message from the in-call list or in-call app widget during a call. To send a message, long press on a contact, channel or group and select the send message option in one of the context menus.
Click on "Message" from any context menu. At the top, see who is your intended recipient. At the bottom, type in the message or click the attachment icon. |

After you press Send, see the message as the start of a thread. The timestamp, the delivery and read status, as well as the first line of text will be on display. |

You may also delete an individual message by long pressing on an individual message thread to bring up the delete option. |
To attach an image with your message, you may take an image or select from the gallery on your device. Tap the attachment icon on the left of the permission text box. First, you'll need to give permission for ESChat to access photos, media and flies on your device. Select "Allow" for any permission prompts. Then, select an image from the gallery or tap the camera icon to take a picture. |
The selected picture is ready to show. Press Send as shown. The recipient will see that there is an attachment in the message inbox. |
