Location Accuracy
The Map view will show the location of all users in range that set up ESChat with Location Services turned on. Here are settings on your device that will affect GPS:
- On Android, click System Settings, then Location Services. If GPS is off, the reported location will be less accurate. We recommend for accuracy, that all three methods be checked. The user may have GPS turned off in order to save battery, but then the location will only be accurate to the location of the cell towers.
- On an iOS device, click Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services. You can turn on Location Services per device. If turned on for ESChat, iOS will use GPS along with crowd-sources WiFi hotspot and cell tower locations to determine your location.
If the user is indoors a lot the GPS won't be able to get an accurate fix on the device, and might revert to cell tower fixes. If the user is always indoors, then using WiFi will improve accuracy. If the user moves in and out a lot, we recommend having WiFi off.
