ESChat and Data Usage
Data usage is dependent on the device type and network service in use (3G, 4G, 5G, WiFi).
For all network types:
- Packet Latency : 200ms is our maximum allowed by default, not what we expect. Actual performance will be network and QoS dependent.
- Packet Loss: We expect 0% but that expectation depends upon network performance.
- Jitter: Our default jitter buffer is 80ms on LTE, Wi-Fi and Broadband wireless networks, and 320ms on other wireless networks. For customers with dedicated servers, jitter buffer timers can be adjusted independently for each wireless technology. Actual performance will be network and QoS dependent.
While ESChat is not in call:
- ESChat usage is approximately 20 Megabytes/month regardless of device and network type.
While ESChat is in-call, and in-call location is enabled:
- While ESChat is in-call and a user is transmitting or receiving voice:
- 4G/5G/WiFi : approx 23 megabytes/hour (384 kilobytes/minute)
- 3G : approx 8.2 megabytes/hour (137 kilobytes/minute)
- While ESChat is in-call, and nobody is talking:
- Approx 403 kilobytes/hour (6.7 kilobytes/minute)
While ESChat is in-call, and in-call location is disabled:
- While ESChat is in-call and a user is transmitting or receiving voice:
- 4G/5G/WiFi : approx 22 megabytes/hour (367 kilobytes/minute)
- 3G : approx 8 megabytes/hour (134 kilobytes/minute)
- While ESChat is in-call, and nobody is talking:
- Approximately 273 kilobytes/hour (4.6 kilobytes/minute)
Examples:
Assume that you typically make calls that use 10 hours of talk time during a month on your :
- 4G/5G/WiFi network , expect to use 220 megabytes/month (without location) or 228 megabytes/month (with location).
- 3G network, expect to use 80 megabytes/month (without location) or 81.6 megabytes/month (with location).
Bandwidth:
Here are the minimum bandwidth rates for each type of connection:
- 4G/5G/WiFi: 40 kbps
- 3G: 18 kbps
- Satellite (Thales MissonLink only): 9.6 kbps
Please check with your provider for any special promotions or packages they might offer.
Audio Codec Rates:
Here are the audio rates for each type of connection:
- PCMU: 64kbps / 1 packet per 20ms
- 4G: 32kbps / 1 packet per 40ms
- 3G: 14kbps / 1 packet per 100ms
- 2G: 8kbps / 1 packet per 160ms
